ZMS 7th Grade Wins Shootout 11/11/17
In the first game of the ZMS Shootout, Zionsville got off to a slow start and went into halftime down 17-6 to Fall Creek. But halfway through the third quarter, the Eagles finally woke up and it was just in time, as the lead had grown to 13 points. But by the end of the third, the Eagles had cut it to 4. Big second half plays occurred at the defensive end with Merrick Macaluso taking several charges and pressured the ball, leading to steals. Offensively, Logan Imes came up with a clutch basket and a huge free throw when the Eagles needed it most, finishing with 13 points total. Adam Melliere also had some big buckets attacking the basket and finished with 9. After holding strong on defense for the final possession, Zionsville won the game, 29-27.
In the Championship game, Zionsville held off an athletic Guion Creek team. The Eagles used a 21 point second quarter to take a 29-17 first half lead. Big shots were made in the second quarter by AJ Jacklin and Michael Krkoska and led to the offensive burst. The game was finished off by the Zionsville bench in the fourth, by a final of 49-30. Adam Melliere led the scoring with 16. Logan Imes had 9 points, and Macaluso and Krkoska each had 6. The two wins on Saturday were enough for the Eagles to take home the Shootout trophy, their first trophy of the year. Zionsville's A team is back in action tonight at home against Lincoln at 5:30.
