ZMS 7th Grade lost a close game to Carmel last night, 43-44. Zionsville controlled the pace for most of the game up until the final 10 seconds, when Carmel hit a jumper for the winning basket. Nick Richart had his best game of the year on both ends of the floor, coming away with a season-high 17 points, dominating inside the paint. Adam Melliere connected on 5 three's and two field goals for 19 total points. Merrick Macaluso had 5 points and Logan Imes had two for the Eagles, who are now 9-2 on the season.
The second game saw a better outcome for Zionsville, as they took command from the tip, leading 18-3 after the first quarter. The Eagles pushed the lead out to 38-7 at half, and finished off the game 60-20. AJ Jacklin had a season-high 18 points, hitting from both inside and outside the arc, as well as the free throw line. Matthew Wleklinski also played well to end with 13 points, all in the first half. The Eagles spread out the rest of the scoring with Nick Firebaugh at 6 points, Evan Huber and Kade Langhorst each with 5 points, and Mac Clayton and Michael Krkoska with 3 points each. Finally, TJ Robinson awed the crowd with his best Reggie Miller impersonation, scoring 7 points in under a minute to end the game.
The Eagles play in the Boone County tournament this Saturday at Lebanon Middle School.
