Zionsville came back from Winter Break a little sluggish, but pulled out a 53-37 victory at Riverside last night. The Eagles scored consistently in the first half to lead 31-16 at halftime. But it was the defense that blew the game open in the third quarter, holding Riverside to one basket and winning the quarter, 17-2. Eagle scoring was led by Adam Melliere with 25 points on seven 3-pointers. Logan Imes played superb defensively and finished with 9 points. Nate Horten had 4 points, and Nick Richart and Merrick Macaluso each had 3. Matthew Wleklinski, Michael Narva, AJ Jacklin, and Evan Huber all had a basket. And Michael Krkoska got in on the scoring with a made free throw.
In the B game, it took the Eagles a quarter to warm up, as it was tied at eight, after the first quarter. But the defense clamped down in the second quarter, holding Riverside to only 4 points, and closing out the half up 23-12. Zionsville's B team would go on to win 41-29 as Riverside kept clawing their way back, but just couldn't stop the Eagle offense. Matthew Wleklinski led all scorers with 13 points. Kade Langhorst and Michael Krkoska each had seven points. Mac Clayton had an "and-one" three-pointer to finish with 6. TJ "His Majesty" Robinson had a steal and 4 points. And Nick Firebaugh and AJ Jacklin each had two points to round out the scoring.
