Melliere, Macaluso & Imes lead ZMS 7th Grade over Brownsburg East (1/11/18)
Zionsville ended the regular season last Thursday, winning at Brownsburg East, 68-32. Zionsville got off to a good start, leading 13-9 after one quarter. An offensive explosion occurred in the second quarter, with 24 second quarter points to lead 37-22 at halftime. The Eagle defense closed it out, allowing only 10 points the rest of the game. Adam Melliere was in the zone from behind the arc, connecting on six 3-pointers in only three quarters, finishing with 21 points. Merrick Macaluso also played outstanding, scoring 9 points in the third quarter alone, ending with 13 points total. Logan Imes played consistent on both ends of the floor to finish with 10 points. TJ Robinson provided a spark off the bench with 4 points. Nate Horten had 7 points, and Matthew Wleklinski had 6. Nick Firebaugh had a free throw and Evan Huber hit a three for Zionsville. The Eagles finish the regular season at 15-4, including 6-0 in the conference. On Saturday, the Eagles B team won the Reserve Tournament, finishing off an incredible undefeated season! In the first game, Zionsville led from the start and beat Beech Grove, 49-26. The Eagles got off to a 13-2 lead and never looked back. The scoring was well-rounded as Matthew Wleklinski led the game with 7 points. Michael Krkoska, Nate Horten, Mac Clayton, and Kade Langhorst all had six points each. Evan Huber and AJ Jacklin both had 3 points, and TJ Robinson chipped in a basket. Also playing extremely well in the victory were managers Nick Patellos with 6 points and Lauer Cawi with 4 points, including an AMAZING ball-fake, side-step three that wow'd the crowd. In the championship game, the Eagles beat Hamilton Heights, 48-20. The first quarter was another outstanding performance by the Eagles, led by manager Nick Patellos, with six points on two three-pointers. He even pulled off several jaw-dropping, no-look passes to open teammates. Evan Huber scored 5 points in the first and finished with a game-high 13 points. Kade Langhorst played hard and had 9 points. Nick Firebaugh had 2 points, TJ Robinson had 5, and Michael Krkoska had 8. Manager Lauer Cawi finished the game with 4 points, hitting yet another 3 pointer. The B team finishes the year unbeaten to go with their championship trophy. The Zionsville 7th grade team will face Brownsburg West on Wednesday at 6:15 pm in the first round of the NSC Tournament as they go for their final trophy of the year.
