ZIONSVILLE MIDDLE SCHOOL 2017-2018 7th GRADE
Zionsville played Avon North in the semifinals of the NSC tournament Saturday in the most exciting game of the year. The Eagles got off to a slow start, down 7-0 after one quarter of play. But a strong second quarter defensively got the Eagles back in the game to bring them within one at halftime, at 10-11. It was back and forth the whole second half, with neither team taking more than a small lead. It was Michael Narva who stepped up on the offensive end, hitting big three after big three to finish with 15 points on 5 three's. After playing defense for an entire minute and getting a stop, Logan Imes drove to the basket with only a few seconds left. The defense stepped over to help, and Logan hit Merrick Macauluso for the game-winning basket with 1.5 seconds left, sending the crowd into madness. The final was 31-29 and sent Zionsville to the Championship. Imes finished with 10 points, Macaluso ended with 4 points, and Nick Richart had 2 points. Adam Mellier, Nate Horten, and Matthew Wleklinski all played crucial minutes in the win as well.
In the Championship game, Zionsville took control from the tip against Westfield, scoring the first 8 points of the game and leading 15-9 after one quarter of play. Westfield battled back in the second, though, to bring it within 27-23 at halftime. But Zionsville's lock-down defense again proved to be the game-changer, holding Westfield to only 3 points in the third quarter. The Eagles held on to the game, and pushed the lead out to double digits, by a final of 43-33. Nick Richart had a huge game, dominating inside, scoring 15 points in the win. Logan Imes played well on both ends of the floor, adding another 10 point performance. Adam Melliere had 6 points, as did Nate Horten. And AJ Jacklin and Michael Narva each hit clutch three's to finish the game with 3 points each.
The Eagles finish the year with an undefeated B team, a reserve tournament championship, a Zionsville Shootout championship, the Eagles Nest, an undefeated conference season, a conference championship, and an 18-4 record. Congrats on an incredible season!
